Iako mnogi smatraju da obrok bez mesa nije pravi obrok i da nikada ne možeš biti potpuno sit bez namirnica životinjskog porekla, to baš i nije tačno.

Journal of General Internal Medicine je sproveo istraživanje koje je uključivalo proveru 12 različitih studija i to na uzorku od čak 1150 ljudi koji su se podvrgli različitim tipovima dijeta tokom 18 nedelja. Rezultat ovog eksperimenta je pokazao da su oni čiji režimi ishrane nisu uključivali meso smršali u proseku 2 kilograma više od onih koji su jeli mesne prerađevine.
